The 2013 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico, “La Stropa", is a darkly alluring, deep ruby hue in the glass. The intense bouquet of dark flowers, licorice, raisin, fruitcake, and mocha evolves in the glass, revealing subtle notes of ground ginger, crushed ashen stone, sugar-dusted black cherries and cloves. On the palate, it offers concentrated fruit flavors of ripe medicinal cherry and blackberry, accentuated by a pretty inner sweetness yet contrasted by a pop of mouthwateringly brisk acidity that adds tension toward the close. Dense, youthfully grippy tannins lead to a harmonious and powerful finish of residual fruits, cedar and licorice hints. Outstanding cellaring potential for those inclined, but can be enjoyed now.
