Rather than separately pick, press and ferment each of the grape varieties individually, this deep and dark field blend is created by pressing and fermenting the chosen grapes all together like the wines of old. Both the nose and palate are jam packed with notes of sappy, rich black raspberry and cherry that transition to notes of savory anise, cracked pepper, brambly briar bushes, new leather, licorice and menthol as it spends time in the glass. With a medium-grained, slightly rustic tannin structure, this full-bodied and seemingly effortlessly layered wine proves the wisdom of not forgetting the old ways. Drinks well now (2025) through at least the next decade.
